Tempe, AZ – Volunteers from the Escalante Community will be honoring all veterans with a Memorial Day Service at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 27 at the Escalante Community Center, 2150 E. Orange St.

The service will feature Councilman Corey Woods and former Mayor Hugh Hallman. The event will also include the color guard from the Tempe Fire Department.

The Escalante family has a rich history both in Tempe and in the United States Military. The Escalante Center is dedicated to the three Escalante brothers - Enrique Galaz, Manuel Galaz and Ramon Escalante. All three were born in Tempe and had sons who served in World War II. Their children, Cipriano, Gabriel and George, all died in the war and the city named the Escalante Park in honor of their service. A statue of the three men stands at the entrance of the center. Many members of the Escalante family have continued to serve in the Army, Marine Corps and Navy.

The community is welcome to join the celebration in honoring all those who have served in the military. Refreshments and cookies will be served. For questions, please contact Dan Frank at 480-966-0516.
