Each spring and fall, Tempe has partnered with the DEA to dispose of unused prescription and over the counter drugs. During the event, thousands of Arizonans turn in more than 6,000 pounds of prescription drugs at sites across the state, operated by dozens of state and local law enforcement partners. Tempe Police and the DEA continue to take action on many fronts to stop prescription drug abuse, addiction, theft and re-sale trafficking.
Our goal is to impact accidental poisonings and overdoses due to the inappropriate use of prescription drugs. Many abused prescription drugs are obtained from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, flushing medications is a health hazard that adversely impacts our water supply and the environment.
Please note that this event is designed for individuals and families in the community. We are not set up to safely handle reverse shipments from pharmaceutical and business distributors.
