Tempe Police Conclude Phase II of Safe & Sober Campaign
Posted Date: 9/16/2013

Phase II of the Tempe Police Department’s joint law enforcement Safe & Sober campaign has concluded.

The results from this past weekend, as well as the feedback received from law enforcement participants and from our community members, demonstrate our shared efforts are paying off; undoubtedly, lives are being saved as intervention is occurring before tragedy can strike.

Truly a joint effort, the success of Phase II of our Safe and Sober campaign was made possible through the generous support and partnership of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, the outstanding teamwork and efforts of the men and women of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department and the dedication of resources by the ASU Police Department.

According to Tempe Police Chief Tom Ryff, “Enforcement alone cannot curtail the challenges posed by youth alcohol violations, impaired driving, and alcohol-fueled violence. Keeping our community safe requires strong partnerships among stakeholders to do what is necessary through education, prevention and enforcement. The commitment and continued partnership between Arizona’s law enforcement community, the City of Tempe, and ASU assures a safe community not only for today and tomorrow, but for the long-term future. Certainly, there is more work to be done, but we are on the right track.”

A date for Phase III of our Safe and Sober campaign has not been established however, Tempe PD and its partners will continue to monitor this issue and continue to do what is necessary to protect lives.
