On Wednesday, April 24, 2013 the U.S. Marshalls assisted Tempe Police arrest Antonio Julio Sanchez in Miami, Florida who has been in hiding since 2002 after being convicted of two counts of sexual assault and two counts of kidnapping. On March 18, 2001 Antonio Sanchez and his cousin Mazon Diamond drugged a female while at a bar then took her to their apartment in Tempe where they sexually assaulted her and videotaped the assault. On March 23, 2001 Both Sanchez and Diamond again drugged another victim who they took to their apartment and sexually assaulted her, videotaping the assault.

In September 2002, both Sanchez and Diamond plead guilty to both assaults and failed to appear for sentencing and have been on the run for over a decade. In 2011 a Tempe Detective assigned to our fugitive apprehension squad began looking through old Tempe cases that had gone to fugitive status and found the arrest warrants for both Antonio Sanchez and Mazon Diamond. Our fugitive apprehension squad immediately began an attempt to locate for both suspects.

Tempe Detectives did extensive follow-up and investigating trying to locate both fugitives, to include contacting the retired Tempe detective that was assigned this case. Detectives began working jointly with the U.S. Marshall Service and were able to locate several possible locations the suspect was hiding to include Utah, Texas and Florida. The U.S. Marshall Service was critical in this investigation and assisting in follow up in these other states.

On April 24, 2013 the Deputy U.S. Marshall and Tempe Detective that began this investigation with the assistance of the U.S. Marshall Service located and arrested Antonio Julio Sanchez in Miami, Florida. Sanchez was using the alias of Antonio Anderson Erin Pina.

With the joint partnership of the U.S. Marshall Service and the Tempe Police Department this dangerous criminal was taken off the street and will now have to face the punishment for these vicious crimes he committed over 10 years ago. Mazon Diamond is still in hiding and being sought after.
