Proposed Speed Limit Changes 2025/2026

Tempe streets have evolved over the decades; becoming more multi-modal with significant changes to the land use and development adjacent to them. Help the City explore changes to speed limits on seven roadways that aim to match the function of the roadway and better reflect the current character of these corridors. The streets being explored include: Broadway, Guadalupe, Miller and McKellips roads, Priest Drive, Roosevelt Street and Veterans Way/Fifth Street.

Public Comment and Meetings

Public meetings will be held December 9, 2025 at noon. Register in advance for this meetingAfter registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

The same information will be available in-person on December 9 at 6 pm at the Pyle Adult Recreation Center located at 655 E. Southern Avenue.

Public comment will be taken from November 17 to December 14, 2025.

Proposed Changes

Broadway Road: Reduce the 45 mph speed limit to 40 mph from Terrace Road to the east city limit. Also reduce the 45 mph speed limit to 40 mph from Priest Drive to the west city limit.
Priest Drive: Reduce the 45 mph speed limit to 40 mph from Alameda Drive to Baseline Road.
Guadalupe Road: Reduce the 45 mph speed limit to 40 mph from Kyrene Road to east city limit
Veterans Way/Fifth Street: Reduce the 30 mph speed limit to 25 mph from University Drive to Farmer Avenue.
Miller Road: Reduce the 35 mph speed limit to 30 mph from the north city limit to Curry Road.
McKellips Road: Reduce the 40 mph speed limit to 35 mph from College Avenue to Scottsdale Road.
Roosevelt Street: Reduce the 35 mph speed limit to 30mph from Broadway Road to Southern Avenue.

  • November 13, 2025: Council presentation
  • December 9, 2026: Public Meetings
  • The first public hearing is tentatively scheduled for January 22, 2026 at 6 p.m. in the Tempe City Council Chambers, 31 E. Fifth Street or virtual.
  • The second public hearing and vote is tentatively scheduled for February 5, 2026  at 6 p.m. in the Tempe City Council Chambers, 31 E. Fifth Street or virtual.
  • Implementation would occur 30 days after the second public hearing
