The City has a goal to achieve Community Carbon Neutrality by 2050 with equitable outcomes. 

Community energy emissions account for the electricity powering residential, commercial, and industrial spaces. Community transportation emissions come from people driving through and in Tempe.

The City of Tempe has a Municipal Carbon Neutrality goal to achieve carbon neutrality in municipal operations with a strategy of 100% renewable energy by 2035. 

Municipal energy emissions account for the electricity powering Tempe’s municipal buildings and facilities, water and wastewater treatment facilities, and streetlights and traffic signals. Municipal transportation emissions account for Tempe municipal fleet, such as work trucks and cars, and Tempe transit fleet such as the Orbit.
