The Tempe Police Department Traffic Section is dedicated to reducing collisions and enhancing roadway safety through proactive enforcement and public education.

The section is staffed by 30 sworn and professional team members who carry out a wide range of responsibilities, including:

• Enforcing state and local traffic laws

• Leading DUI reduction task forces

• Providing emergency and special event traffic control

• Responding to community requests for targeted neighborhood enforcement

Within the unit, 14 Motor Officers and 3 Motor Sergeants specialize in handling traffic collisions, special events, hit-and-run investigations, and vehicular crimes, while also maintaining ongoing traffic law enforcement.

The Night Traffic Squad, comprised of four Officers and one Sergeant, focuses on nighttime safety. Their duties include enforcing traffic laws, leading DUI reduction efforts, managing special event and emergency traffic control, addressing street racing, and responding to community traffic concerns
