The Tempe Police Department is proudly accredited by the
Arizona Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ALEAP).

What is Accreditation?

Accreditation is a voluntary process where law enforcement agencies review their policies, procedures, operations, and training. Independent assessors confirm the agency meets rigorous standards, providing public trust and professional recognition while demonstrating accountability, transparency, and commitment to best practices.

Our Accreditation Journey

Since initiating our accreditation journey in July 2020, we have been unwavering in our commitment to upholding the highest standards of service, professionalism, and accountability. This dedication culminated in achieving official ALEAP accreditation in July 2023 (after a 3-year self-assessment period), affirming our adherence to rigorous best practices in law enforcement.

In our continued pursuit of excellence, we are pleased to announce that in April 2024, the Tempe Police Department embarked on the ALEAP accreditation process for our Property and Evidence Facility. Over a two-year self-assessment period, we will work diligently to achieve accreditation, ensuring that our evidence management practices meet ALEAP’s stringent standards.

Accreditation through ALEAP signifies our commitment to aligning policies and procedures with nationally recognized benchmarks of excellence. To maintain accreditation, we will provide annual proof of compliance with each standard over a four-year cycle, demonstrating our ongoing dedication to accountability and exceptional service to our community.
