The Support Services Division provides the essential behind-the-scenes operations that keep the department running efficiently and effectively. This division ensures that critical communications, detention, personnel services, and various programs are available to support both the community and the department’s sworn and civilian staff.
POLICE EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS BUREAU
The Police Emergency Communications Bureau oversees emergency communications, real-time crime monitoring, and alarm program coordination.
- 911 Communications Section – Responsible for answering emergency calls, dispatching resources, and maintaining communications systems.
- Real-Time Operations Center (RTOC) – Provides live monitoring and intelligence support to field officers during active incidents.
- Alarm Unit – Manages the city’s alarm registration program and ensures compliance with alarm ordinances.
PERSONNEL SERVICES BUREAU
The Personnel Services Bureau manages employee recruitment, training, and support services.
- Personnel Services Section – Includes the Recruiting & Hiring Unit (Join Tempe PD), Firearms & Training Unit, Peer Support Program, employee health and wellness, and the Department Orders (Policy) function.
- Detention Section – Responsible for ensuring safe and secure housing, processing, and transportation of detainees.
Additional Areas
- Accreditation Program – Oversees compliance with professional law enforcement standards and accreditation requirements.
- Force Review Committee – Evaluates incidents involving use of force to ensure accountability and adherence to policy.
- Citizen Review Panel – Provides independent oversight and review of complaints against police officers regarding misconduct and use of force.
Through its communications, detention operations, personnel management, and wellness initiatives, the Support Services Division plays a vital role in maintaining the department’s readiness, professionalism, and commitment to service.
