College Connect Tempe is a community collaboration designed to increase access to post-secondary opportunities for Tempe's youth.
Vice-Mayor Robin Arredondo-Savage and a group of partners from the education and nonprofit community designed College Connect to convey “the belief that anyone who wants to can go to college, and to provide the resources and tools.” College Connect takes shape as a free workshop series for students and parents, keyed to well-timed preparatory steps leading to successful college entry. College Connect provides one-on-one guidance and workshops on a variety of topics including:

Nick @the College Connect Office
Nick is from Tempe, Arizona and attends Mesa Community College (MCC) studying biochemistry. As an AmeriCorps member, Nick has extensive experience conducting outreach and tabling/speaking at events. His outgoing personality lends itself to facilitating presentations and and tabling at events. Before being a mentor, Nick worked for the Campus Election Engagement Project where he assisted with increasing voter registration at MCC. When Nick is not mentoring, he enjoys making music playing guitar and bass, food/cooking, physical fitness. Nick also has a passion for engaging young adults in participating in politics and the election process.
Tutoring students on essay writing and working with them to improve their writing abilities. Experience working with 8th graders who he feels are at the perfect age to begin thinking about college and developing skills that will be critical to their success while they attend high school. Encouraging students to consider early college programs to get ahead on their college education.

Roger @Tempe High School
Roger was raised in Detroit, Michigan and spent his adult life in Arizona. He graduated from Arizona State University (ASU) and later worked for ASU in Information Technology Management. When not mentoring, Roger is an active runner, swimmer, cyclist and hiker. He enjoys volunteering in a variety of ways and still finds time to read a book and travel.
College admissions, filling out the FAFSA, college searches, applying for scholarships, writing scholarship essays, planning after high school, resume development, interviewing skills and more!

Kazandra @the College Connect Office
Kazandra is from Sonora, Mexico and is currently attending Arizona Sate University studying International Relations and Economics in WP Carey School of Business. When not mentoring, Kazandra likes to play the violin, read and obsessively organize.
Reviewing scholarship essays, resumes, prepping for interviews, financial aid assistance, college searches, and anything relating to college and career readiness!

Arielle @the College Connect Office
Arielle is from the Philippines and moved to Arizona when she was 11. Arielle first attended Estrella Mountain Community College to pursue an Associate of Arts degree in Psychology. She then, transferred to Arizona State University in order to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a minor degree in Studio Art. Arielle is currently pursing a Master’s degree in Social Work. When Arielle is not working making art, crocheting, reading, playing video games, and watching other people play video games on YouTube. Her interests range from the surreal and unnerving (e.g., Lovecraft, René Magritte, etc.) to the beauty of the Southwest (e.g., cowboys and the desert landscape).
Navigating topics concerning community college and being a transfer student and finding community resources for students in need thanks to her volunteer work at St. Vincent de Paul.

Myra @the College Connect Office
Myra is an Arizona native from Chandler, AZ. She attended St. Olaf College in Minnesota and transferred to Arizona State University. She is studying political science and statistics and has experience with the Arizona Board of Regents as an intern. When Myra is not mentoring, she enjoys reading and playing basketball.
Tutoring in math and English, resume development, interviewing skills, writing cover letterscollege searching, athletic recruitment, and political science/government.

Stephanie @Compadre Academy
Stephanie is from North Carolina and moved to Tucson, AZ at the age of 9. She currently attends Arizona Sate University studying Elementary Education and working on a minor in Music and LGBTQ Studies Certificate. When not mentoring, Stephanie enjoys watching movies and reading about movies.
Tutoring in various high school subjects including math and science, PSAT SAT, ACT and AP test prepping, college essays and resume development.

Adele @Compadre Academy
Adele is from Houston, Texas and has lived in Tempe, Arizona for over 35 years. Adele graduated with BA in Psychology and Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin and then received her MBA from UCLA. For the past 10 years, she worked as an academic and career advisor at Mesa Community College. When not mentoring, Adele enjoys researching nutrition and cooking healthy vegetarian meals for herself and her husband, traveling, primarily to visit her two kids on both coasts, and practicing yoga and Pilates.
Career/educational planning after high school, admissions to community colleges and universities, scholarship essay reviews, resume building, and interviewing skills.

Ida was born in New York and raised in New Jersey. She graduated with a BA at Hunter College of City University. Ida has years of experience in Human Resources and hiring teens. When not mentoring, Ida enjoys cooking and
