Career Ready Tempe is a paid summer internship program for income-eligible high school juniors and seniors in the City of Tempe. Admitted students will be matched with businesses located in the City of Tempe for their internships.
Internships are 15 hours a week for an 8-week period (totaling 120 hours) and take place during the summer. Students are compensated at a rate of $13/hour by the Career Ready Tempe program.
Admitted students will be prepared to work in a professional setting by means of quality soft skills training. In an effort to prepare students for the work setting, they will receive in-person training from Arizona@Work. Student will also be required to take 6 online soft skills training courses through Arizona State University’s Edge program in the areas of customer service, leadership and personal development. Student-Interns are required, by the program, to complete modules titled Time Management, Customer Service and Communication Etiquette. Employers with whom they are matched will have the opportunity to select 3 additional modules for students to complete prior to beginning an internship with their company.
Businesses will determine meaningful projects and tasks related to our identified in-demand industries for student-interns to perform and have the option to participate in the interview process. Businesses will also designate an on-site supervisor who will be responsible for assigning projects, signing off on timesheets and orienting the intern(s) to the workplace.
City staff will monitor and coordinate with interns/businesses throughout the process to ensure smooth implementation.

- Submit a Career Ready Tempe Business Application
- Provide internship(s) related to an identified in-demand industry identified by the Career Ready Tempe program.
- Be located in the City of Tempe
- Be in good standing with the Arizona Corporation Commission
- Attend a Career Ready Tempe Business Orientation Session
- Designate an on-site intern supervisor
- Provide a job description with meaningful project assignments (Administrative tasks= No more than 20% of work)
- Provide a safe working environment and assume liability for any intern injured in a work-related accident
