Sign up for one of two free Emergency Preparedness classes.

Be ready when it matters most

Emergencies can happen without warning such as monsoon storms, power outages, wildfires or public health threats. This August, during Emergency Management Awareness Month, Tempe is offering two free class to help you prepare your household and protect the people you care about.

Join Tempe Emergency Manager Monique Rodriguez and Carissa Fowler from the Sustainability and Resilience Division for a hands-on session that will help you:

  • Build a personalized go bag for quick evacuations
  • Create a family emergency plan that actually works
  • Prepare for extreme weather and unexpected disruptions
  • Think through real-life scenarios with an interactive, neighborhood-focused game

These practical workshops will give you peace of mind and a plan for the unexpected.

The City has a number of resources to help you to help you during an emergency. Learn about receiving alerts and reporting emergency on our Reporting an Emergency page which includes sign up information about Reverse 9-1-1 and Smart911.

Become emergency prepared

  • Have an Emergency Plan
  • Have an Emergency Communications Plan
    • Stay in touch if you get separated from family, friends and household members.  Create an Emergency Communications Plan from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to guide you.
  • Have a Disaster Supply Kit
  • Take an emergency preparedness class
    Periodically, the City of Tempe and neighboring cities offer a hands-on course for the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). This course can show you how to work with neighbors and others before first responders arrive.
