Misleading home inspection offers

Please be aware that a person or persons falsely claiming a partnership with the Tempe Fire Medical Rescue Department tries to gain personal information about you and your household.  The initial contact comes in the form of a Notice left at homes that an item is being held for you.

Update:

Recently, flyers had been distributed in several Tempe neighborhoods from a company offering to sell fire safety products.  When community members called, a person with the company purported the company was working in conjunction with local municipal fire departments, however there is no agreement or affiliation between this company and the Tempe Fire Medical Rescue Department.

Tempe Police investigated and found the company was properly registered through the Arizona Corporation Commission and maintains solicitation permits through the City of Scottsdale and the City of Phoenix for similar business ventures.  The owner of the company was interviewed and provided with information as to how to properly go about applying for a solicitation permit through the City of Tempe.  No crime has been established, and it remains to your discretion as to whom you choose to invite to your residence to conduct business.

We certainly appreciate all the inquiries regarding this situation and hope this follow-up message provides some further resolution to the situation.  As always, we encourage you to continue to report suspicious activity in the Tempe community.  If you have concerns about the flyer, please contact Interim Assistant Fire Chief Andrea Glass at 480-858-7201.
