Yes, the City of Tempe does issue a General Business License. Businesses with a permanent location in Tempe, including those not required to obtain a Transaction Privilege Tax (TPT) license, such as professional services and contractors with job sites in Tempe, will be required to obtain a business license. The license is effective August 1, 2025. In addition, a Transaction Privilege Tax license is required for every business that is conducting a taxable activity. The City of Tempe also issues a number of regulatory licenses and business that are required to have a regulatory license in Tempe are not required to have a general business license. If you do not have a login to AZTaxes.gov, click on Login to AZTaxes and begin the registration process. The region code you will use when completing the application for a new location is TE.
