Dolores Huerta Scholarship

The Delores Huerta scholarship is sponsored by Chicanos Por La Causa and will award $2,500.00 to one Tempe Union High School District High School Senior. 

Dolores Huerta is a civil rights activist and community organizer who has fought for labor rights and social justice for more than 50 years. In 1962, she and Cesar Chavez founded the United Farm Workers union. She is credited with the rallying cry, "Si Se Puede!" She received the Eleanor Roosevelt Human Rights Award from President Bill Clinton in 1998. In 2012, President Barack Obama bestowed Dolores with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the US. Deadline for applications is Thursday, February 19, 2026.

The winner will be honored at Tempe's 2026 Neighborhood Celebration on Saturday, April 11, 2026. 

Scholarship Eligibility Requirements:

1. Applicants must be a High School Senior.
2. Applicants must either live in Tempe or attend a Tempe Union High School District school.
3. Applicants must demonstrate participation in projects or activities that are in alignment with the Dolores Huerta Foundation such as:
   1.  Community Organizing
   2. Leadership Development
   3. Civic Engagement or Policy Advocacy
4. Applicant’s work can extend beyond Tempe boundaries.
5. B Average is desired.

1. Complete this application form
2. Respond to each question in 500 words
   1. Describe how your projects or activities are in alignment with the Dolores Huerta Foundation.
   2. Describe why you are passionate about your social justice work and how you hope to continue this work in the future.
3. Attach an unofficial transcript
