Early Childhood Education Program
Volunteers are needed to help children ages 3 to 5 years develop social, motor and cognitive skills in a safe, nurturing and educational setting. Volunteers assist the lead instructor and interact with children. Sessions are held Mondays through Thursdays, at 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. during the school year. Volunteers may assist with one or more session; minimum commitment, one shift for four weeks.
Volunteers are needed to interact with school-age children who come to the center after school, Monday through Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m. and Fridays from 1:30 to 6 p.m. It is an informal program where children may come and go and engage in sports or other activities as they please. Volunteers interact with children in a positive and encouraging manner, providing an adult influence and may be asked to lead some activities or assist a student with homework.
Family Place Parent/Child Workshops
Family Place offers parents, grandparents and care givers of children ages one to three the opportunity to spend quality time together playing, reading and creating crafts, while interacting with each other in a safe, fun and nurturing environment. In addition, visiting community experts discuss topics such as literacy, child development, speech development, nutrition, behavior and discipline. Volunteers assist with play area set-up, run the craft activities for children, interact with children and parents, help take down equipment and clean up. The volunteer shift is 9 a.m. to noon. Minimum commitment is one 4-week session. Call the Volunteer Office for session dates.
