Fourth through Eighth Grade - Annual Essay Contest

Tempe School District #3 and Tempe History Museum present an annual essay contest for school district 4th - 8th grade students. This is an opportunity to learn and write about the history of our community and be eligible to earn prizes. The essay contest entries are based on an annual theme. The 2019 contest challenges students to look at Tempe History Museum's timeline exhibit and answer the following questions.

"What are the themes depicted in the Tempe timeline exhibit and why do you think they were chosen?"

Students must then decide on a milestone they would like to include in the timeline; explain why it should be added to the exhibit and what image and small artifact they would select to add to the exhibit to represent that milestone. The winning entry will be on display in the Tempe History Museum's Timeline exhibit in April.

See images of the timeline at the museum or by going to our Facebook Album online. You may also view a PDF of the exhibit panels by clicking this link: Timeline Exhibit [1.6MB PDF]

Contest entries are collected by teachers and reviewed by Tempe Elementary School District staff.  An Awards Celebration and reception will take place for all participants at Tempe History Museum, 809 E Southern Avenue on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. to enjoy light refreshments and music after awards are presented.

Participation in the TD3 History Museum Essay Contest is through the Tempe Elementary School District offices. Please contact the museum for more information by email or phone, (480) 350-5100.
