The museum explores Tempe history through collections, research services, exhibits, and programs that captivate and connect with audiences throughout the community and beyond.

Visitors can explore four thematic areas - College Town, Building Our Community, Living Together and Surviving in the Desert. Our Kid's Place children's gallery offers young visitors the chance to explore, play and spend time with family and new friends.

The museum also curates a changing gallery space in the main exhibit hall, as well as exhibit space in the Community Room. The current changing exhibit is titled Trains of Tempe, and the current Community Room exhibit, Train Stories, is a compliment display to Trains of Tempe.

Tempe History Museum also manages the historic Petersen House Museum, located on the northwest corner of Southern Ave. and Priest Rd. in Tempe. The Petersen House is open to the public the first three weekends of December and by appointment for group tours and fourth-grade school tours.
