The City of Tempe is working on improvements to Tempe Women’s Club Park. Enhancements will include a complete renovation of the playground, accessible walkways into the park, and a new ramada. Residents were also unanimous in approving a gate at the northeast corner of the park.
The improvements are funded out of the city’s Capital Improvement Program budget, as part of the Parks Improvement Plan, which is reinvesting more than $60 million into Tempe parks over the next few years . Additional modifications or enhancements to other park amenities are not included in the budgeted amount.
The Tempe Women’s Club Xeriscape Garden sits at the most Eastern edge of the Carl Hayden Campus for Sustainability. The garden, created in 1995, highlights both Sonoran and Mediterranean plant palettes and provides practical ideas for backyards and workplaces. The garden also features an area that attracts hummingbirds.
The circular playground within the garden will be updated and replaced. All designs and equipment for the new playground will be chosen in partnership with stakeholders in the Water Conservation Department and residents.
