To influence healthy eating and active living in a positive way, promote health, and reduce disease among all children and families living in Tempe.
Who We Are
Established in 2001, the Kid Zone Nutrition Program promotes healthy lifestyles to Tempe children and families. Through nutrition instruction, food demonstrations, gardening, physical activity instruction, mascot appearances, staff training and family nights, we work to increase the knowledge and awareness of our community to the benefits of eating smart and playing hard. The Kid Zone Nutrition Program is funded through the Arizona Nutrition Network (AzNN) and the USDA as part of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). SNAP provides nutrition assistance to people with low income. It can help you buy nutritious foods for a better diet. To find out more, contact 1-800-352-8401. What We Do
The Kid Zone Nutrition Program works with schools and community centers to incorporate nutrition education, physical activity and gardening into their sites.
Kid Zone: Nutrition instructors travel to Kid Zone before and after school programs leading activities that educate children about MyPlate, physical activity and food safety. They encourage children and their families to make healthy food choices and stay physically active.
Special Events: The Kid Zone Nutrition Program regularly participates in special events for the Tempe community as well as within Tempe schools. We offer nutrition and physical activity information as well as incentive items that promote healthy eating and physical activity for children and their families within our community. If your organization would like to invite the Kid Zone Nutrition Program to participate in your local community event, click here for more information.
School Health: Our program partners with the Tempe educators and administrators within the Tempe Elementary School District to promote healthy classrooms. We can support schools with implementing the district’s wellness policy.
Our program has been working with Principals, Teachers, and District Food Service to increase the presence of school gardens. Eleven schools in the Tempe Elementary School District and one in the Kyrene School District currently have a school garden.
Our team can provide nutrition education through classroom appearances as guest speakers. We come prepared with a 30-60 minute nutrition lesson which may also include a healthy food demonstration where children will participate and taste test. If you are interesting in scheduling a nutrition guest speaker appearance, please click here for more information.
