Application Period

Opening date: January 2, 2019

Closing Date: April 16, 2019

Interview Dates: The week of May 6, 2019 

Interviews will be conducted according to program requirements and the needs of the City. Positions will be filled based on a scoring system that consists of a swim test, oral interview and summer availability. 

 

Required Hours

Mornings, afternoons and weekends. Generally, junior guards will work 10-20 hours per week. All junior guards will be required to attend weekly trainings, and must be able to attend mandatory pre-program training, held the evening of May 31, 2019.

 

Experience and Training

Applicants must know how to swim. Previous swimming and/or volunteer experience is preferred, but not mandatory. 

 

Essential Job Functions

Assist in the development and implementation of Starfish Swim program

Assist in the enforcement of pool rules and regulations during swim hours

Assist with routine pool maintenance

Assist in providing information regarding the pool and programs to the public

Assist in the accounting and maintenance of pool and lesson equipment

Participate in Junior Guard programs

 

Applicant Requirements

Must be 12 years of age by May 31st, 2019

Must be able to complete City of Tempe Junior Guard water test and oral interview

 

Availability Requirements

Junior guards will be expected to work approximately 10-20 hours per week and attend mandatory weekly trainings. 

Must be able to work from June 3, 2019 to July 28, 2019 

Must be available for Junior Guard Parent Orientation and Training May 31, 2019

 

Certifications/Training Provided

American Red Cross CPR/AED
