The ADU Standard Plan Library is a collection of pre-reviewed standard plans for detached accessory dwelling units (ADUs) made possible by AARP's 2025 Community Challenge Grant. Plans may be purchased from a designer and used to construct in Tempe. Follow these steps to use the ADU Standard Plans. Browse this list to and the design that meets the needs for your property, then use the provided contact information to contact the designer for more information about their design or to purchase the license for plans.

Select your design: Browse the list of standard plans below. Contact information for each designer is provided and may be contacted for questions about their plan.

License the plan: Contact the designer to obtain the license to use their standard plan. You may be able to use this plan on your own or with the help of a professional other than the design company in which case they may request a release of liability as they will not be involved in the use of the plans.

Submit Building Permits: Once the Use Permit is approved or if none is required, submit the required documents for Building Permits. Construction can begin once Building Permits are issued.

Designs with the "IN REVIEW" banner are currently being processed for standard plan pre-approval and are not yet available for license.
