Notice of Hearing on April 12, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. to consider and vote on the removal of Councilmember Kolby Granville from the Tempe City Council, under Tempe City Charter Sec. 2.06(d)

On April 15, 2019, the City Council finalized the timeline to fill a vacancy on the City Council by way of appointment of a qualified person pursuant to City of Tempe Charter §2.06(c)(1).

The application period for the Tempe City Council vacancy has closed and 49 residents have applied to be considered for the job.  View the listing of applicants.

Applicants need to be qualified electors in Tempe, at least 18 years of age as of May 9, 2019, and have lived in Tempe for the last two years or longer.  The application period was 8 a.m. April 16 through 5 p.m. April 22.

On Thursday, April 25, in a closed Executive Session, the City Council discussed the applicants and selected three applicants to be interviewed Thursday, May 2, during the public Work Study Session.  Public comment will be taken at that time.  Finalists will be discussed by the Council in a subsequent Executive Session.

Out of the three finalists, Arlene Chin was selected to move forward for consideration in the process to fill the City Council vacancy.  At the Thursday, May 9 Regular Council Meeting, Councilmembers voted unanimously to appoint Ms. Chin.  Ms. Chin took the City Council oath of office to begin a partial term of office that will expire at the first Regular Council Meeting in July 2020.
