The following Boards and Commissions currently have openings or will have upcoming openings before the end of this year. Apply by Fri., Nov. 14 using the Board and Commission Application to be considered for appointment at the Dec. 11 Council meeting. Appointed members will begin service on Jan. 1, 2026.
Several Boards and Commissions are currently seeking new members:
- Aviation Commission – Advises on air transportation issues and airport operations affecting Tempe residents.
- Desert Conservation Commission – Protects and preserves Tempe’s desert parks, trails, and native habitats.
- Family Justice Commission – Advances policies addressing domestic violence and supporting survivors.
- Human Relations Commission – Promotes mutual understanding and respect among all residents and advises on issues related to equity and inclusion. Youth applicants (ages 14–18) are encouraged to apply for the city’s two new youth member seats for Tempe students.
- Industrial Development Authority – Encourages projects that support job creation and economic growth.
- Joint Review Committee – Reviews architectural design standards and development plans in key zoning areas.
- Neighborhood Advisory Commission – Strengthens neighborhood connections and advises on local priorities. Residents in zip codes 85281, 85282, or 85283 are especially encouraged to apply.
- Risk Management Trust Board – Provides guidance on city insurance and risk management programs.
- Technical Code Advisory Board of Appeals – Reviews technical and building code interpretations.
Important Eligibility Note – City Code Term Limits
Under Tempe City Code Section 2-182(c), individuals may not serve more than two (2) total terms on the same board or commission, regardless of whether the terms are consecutive. If you have already completed two full terms on a particular board or commission, you are not eligible to be reappointed to that same body.
