The Development Review Commission holds public meetings and hearings, to provide analysis and recommendations to the City Council regarding general land use policies and applications where the Commission has recommendatory power, and to render final decisions on specified applications where the Commission has final decision-making power, including, but not limited to, all aspects of a proposed and future development. The Commission has the duty to carry out the provisions and intent of the General Plan and the Zoning and Development Code. (Zoning and Development Code, Part 1, Chapter 3, Section 1-312)
The Development Review Commission is composed of seven members and three alternates. Alternate members serve at the Commission hearing whenever a regular member is unable to attend or must decline due to conflict of interest. At least three regular members of the Commission and one alternate member shall be currently practicing in the field of:
- landscape architecture,
- urban planning,
- land use law,
- real estate,
- engineering, or
- otherwise qualified by a design background, training, experience, or similar related field.
The members of the Commission are Tempe residents, and terms of service are for three years.
Development Review Commission meetings are typically held at 6 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month in the Tempe City Council Chambers, 31 E. Fifth St., Tempe. A study session is usually held at 5:30 p.m. on the same date and in the same location.
