Bike sharing is perfect for short trips, giving you the ability to pick up a bicycle at any self-serve bike station. Tempe’s bike share system, called GRID,  includes 300 bikes and 32 stations, offering another alternative for you to get around the city with ease.

Tempe’s stations are located in high-activity areas such as downtown Tempe, along the light rail line, near Arizona State University’s campus and at community centers. The bikes are equipped with state-of-the-art features like a GPS-enabled panel to interact with the bike and an integrated bike lock that also works with regular bike racks.

Payment options include weekly, monthly, student and pay-as-you-go.  Bikes can be located and reserved through the Social Bicycles mobile app or online. Members can also unlock a bike directly at the station using an account number and four-digit PIN code. To end a trip, the bike can be returned to any bike station in the Valley or, for a small fee, can be locked at any regular bike rack. Tempe’s system is also  compatible with the GRID bikeshare system in Mesa and Phoenix.

For more information, visit or download the Social Bicycles mobile application on Google Play or at the iTunes App Store.

On April 19, 2018, a working group comprised of councilmembers, staff and bike share vendors was created to address resident and stakeholder concerns regarding dockless bike operations in Tempe. The working group is exploring licensing fees, the number of bikes in Tempe, staging and parking areas and data sharing. There will be an opportunity for the public to provide input on the draft license.
