Surplus and Expired Medication Disposal

Picture of Med Return ContainerIn order to reduce the supply of surplus prescription and over-the-counter medication which could potentially harm children, teens and adults, the Tempe Police Department, the Tempe Coalition, and the Arizona Attorney General’s Office have partnered to establish a permanent MedReturn drug collection program.

Many times abused prescription/over-the-counter medications are obtained from surplus/expired items being stored within the home medicine cabinet.  It is also hazardous to flush these drugs as they can be harmful to our water table.  Furthermore, Arizona ranks 6th highest in the nation for individuals 12 years and older misusing and abusing prescription drugs.

The Rx drop boxes will be available year-round to the public providing our Tempe community with a convenient, year round, anonymous and accessible means to safely and securely dispose of unused and expired medication.

Drop off locations are available for use during normal business hours (Monday- Friday 8am-5pm excluding City Holidays)
