Tempe Changing the World

In Tempe, we’re busy changing the world – you can see examples of this incredible work all across our City. Earlier this month at my State of the City address, I spoke to Tempe residents and business and community leaders about some of this great work. I couldn’t help but be proud of our community –Tempe is at the forefront of innovation in our region, state and even the world.  From new entrepreneurs working out of the BRiC on innovative start-up companies to the development of a lifesaving vaccine at ASU’s Biodesign institute, Tempe is a center for innovation in our region.

mattsx300It’s also exciting to see the State Farm employees move into their new space at Tempe’s Marina Heights along the Tempe Town Lake. Marina Heights is already proving to be a great addition to our Town Lake, bringing not only high wage jobs, but great Arizona-grown businesses like Matt’s Big Breakfast!  I can’t wait to take my girls on a Saturday morning for his signature griddlecakes.

There’s no question 2016 has been an incredible year for our city – and things are looking even better for 2017. We have more than high-wage jobs coming to our city, we’re in the process of investing nearly $49 million in our city parks, we have world-class events planned all year long, and so much more – it’s an exciting time for Tempe.

As we focus on the holidays, I would encourage you to shop local.  We’ve got great shops and holiday cheer from our local shops on Mill Avenue to our local institutions like Changing Hands and Cookies from Home.  And if you haven’t checked out the 6th Street Market on Sundays in downtown Tempe, then this weekend is the time to do it. Check it out at

Happy holidays and a great New Year to you and your family.
