Tempe Sports Complex pickleball court expansion to open April 24

Post Date:04/06/2026 4:00 PM
Join us as we serve up a ribbon-cutting ceremony and live pickleball demos in celebration of doubling the number of pickleball courts at Tempe Sports Complex.

Grab your paddle, swing by for refreshments and help us break in the eight new courts with a real smash hit.

Details:
  • Friday, April 24
  • 5-7 p.m.
  • Tempe Sports Complex, 8401 S. Hardy Drive
  • Free!

Courts will be closed April 6-24 as we wrap up construction and resurface all 16 courts. Following the grand opening, the courts will be open daily with extended summer hours of 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The existing eight pickleball courts at Tempe Sports Complex originally opened in 2019 and featured the first ADA-accessible courts in the state. The courts are free and open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis outside of scheduled classes

Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines many elements of tennis and badminton. It has become a rapidly growing phenomenon, attracting players of all ages and activity levels.

The new courts are made possible through the Parks Capital Improvement Program, which is investing more than $60 million into Tempe parks over the next five years. This amenity expansion reflects community feedback gathered during the Tempe Parks and Recreation Master Plan update, which identified the need for additional courts.
