Angie Taylor, a passionate advocate and longtime champion for service in Tempe, has been selected as the 42nd recipient of the Don Carlos Humanitarian Award, presented by Tempe Community Council (TCC).

The award will be presented during the 2025 Don Carlos Humanitarian Awards, a community celebration, dinner, and fundraiser. Named in honor of Tempe founder Charles Trumbull Hayden, fondly remembered by early Hispanic residents as “Don Carlos,” the award recognizes individuals who reflect his legacy of compassion, leadership, and dedication to helping others.

Angie Taylor has spent her life working to uplift the Tempe community through a wide range of organizations, including Tempe Sister Cities, Tempe Community Council, Tempe Community Action Agency, East Valley Women’s League, National Charity League, and the City of Tempe’s Development Review Commission, among many others. From mentoring youth and supporting cultural exchange to serving in leadership roles and delivering meals to vulnerable residents, her unwavering commitment to improving lives has left a lasting impact on countless individuals and families.

“As we do each year, Tempe Community Council proudly highlights the contributions of those who give of themselves to make our city stronger,” said Rabbanni FurQaan, TCC board chair. “This year’s honorees show the power of community and compassion in action.”

TCC will also recognize the 2025 Young Humanitarian Award recipient, Emily Do. A recent graduate of Corona del Sol High School, she has shown a deep commitment to service through volunteer work with Best Buddies Club, Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) Club, the Tempe Union High School District Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council, and Vietnamese Youth Group. In recognition of her efforts, she will receive a $2,000 scholarship from the Ramsey Social Justice Foundation during the event.

“The Don Carlos Awards shine a light on the individuals who lead with kindness and commitment,” said TCC Executive Director Octavia Harris. “This event is a powerful reminder of the effective good happening in our community and helps support the programs and partnerships that move Tempe forward.”

The awards ceremony will bring together community members, civic leaders and honorees to celebrate the contributions of this year’s award recipients. The 42nd annual Don Carlos Humanitarian Awards ceremony, dinner and fundraiser takes place Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 5:30 p.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton Tempe.
