March 15: City of Tempe closing all public facilities through March 27
Tempe, Ariz. - Out of an abundance of caution, and to protect the health of the community by helping to slow the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), all City of Tempe facilities will be closed effective Monday, March 16 through March 27. This includes the following locations:
Tempe Public Library
Kiwanis Recreation Center
Escalante Community Center
North Tempe Multi-Generational Center
Westside Multi-Generational Center
Tempe Center for the Arts
Pyle Adult Recreation Center
Cahill Senior Center
Tempe History Museum
Edna Vihel Arts Center
All Tempe historic properties
Head Start programs at Escalante Community Center, North and Westside multi-generational centers, and Valor on Eighth will run until close of business day on Monday, March 16 to give parents time to find alternatives. The preschool program at Escalante Community Center will also run through end-of-day on Monday. Both programs will be canceled effective Tuesday, March 17 through March 27.
The Boys & Girls Club programs at the North and Westside multi-generational centers have also been canceled effective the morning of Monday, March 16. Some Boys & Girls Club locations remain open outside Tempe; visit the Boys & Girls Club website for the most current information.
The city is working with Tempe Community Action Agency on details to continue providing meals to seniors and will provide updates as arrangements are made. Tempe Elementary School District is providing meals for students. Visit the district webpage for info.
Human Services appointments for Care 7, Housing and Community Supervision will be conducted by phone or rescheduled.
As a reminder, all City of Tempe classes and programs have been canceled.
Digital access to Tempe Public Library is not affected. Patrons can still access e-books and e-magazines by visiting the Digital Library page.
All critical services that Tempe provides – police and fire protection, traffic control, transit, court services, water and wastewater and solid waste pickup – will continue to be fully available as normal. Tempe is prepared to continue providing those services uninterrupted even if the virus spreads and begins to affect city employees.
