As part of the ongoing public outreach process for the Urban Core Master Plan (UCMP) and updated Transportation Overlay District (TOD), Tempe is hosting the last round of public meetings to seek input on the draft plans. Community members are invited to review and provide feedback on the UCMP and TOD draft documents:

  • Saturday, May 18 from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
    Tempe Transportation Center, 200 E. 5th St.
  • Monday, May 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    Tempe Transportation Center, 200 E. 5th St.
  • Monday, May 20 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Escalante Community Center, 2150 E. Orange St.

(The same material will be presented at all three meetings.)

People can also review the documents and comment online through June 2 at

After the May public meetings and online comment period, the updated plans will be taken through the public hearing process by the Development Review Commission in August 2019 and Tempe City Council in September and October 2019. Community members can provide further comments at those meetings.

Draft plans for the Urban Core Master Plan, Transportation Overlay District and Affordable Housing Strategies were developed based on review of the existing plans and assessment of relevant data, along with extensive public input gathered over the last 15 months. The UCMP is designed to guide the future development in the Urban Core area, and the updated TOD will help promote transit ridership and shape development around the light rail and streetcar routes.

The concurrently developed Affordable Housing Strategies (AHS) document was presented at public meetings and released online during March 2019. It will be placed on the agenda of the Tempe City Council for consideration in summer 2019.
