Call to artists – Vibrant Artist Cohort applicants now being accepted

Tempe is now seeking applicants for the Vibrant Artist Cohort (VAC), which provides an opportunity for performance-based artists to develop their careers. Artists who participate will attend workshops, have access to one-on-one mentorship, receive artistic support, and learn about project development and finances. Once complete, the artists will work towards creating a project that activates the arts in Tempe while helping them reach their long-term career goals. 

Applications are being accepted now through May 6 at tempe.gov/ArtsGrants.

Who should apply?

The VAC is for individual artists with a performance-based practice such as theatre, dance, music and spoken word.  Applicants should be interested in developing a professional career in the arts, as well as focusing on the creative, critical, and professional aspects of an artist’s career. Applicants must live in Maricopa County, be available to attend all workshops in-person, and be able to create a performance-based program in Tempe. Anyone who will be enrolled or teaching full-time at a university between July 2019-June 2020 is not eligible to apply.

Artist Stipend

$1500 - Cohort participants will receive a $500 stipend for participating in a 6-month mentorship program. Once completed, artists will receive a $1,000 Vibrant City Grant to develop a performance-based program in Tempe in spring 2020.

Time Commitment

The VAC is a 12-month program that runs from July 2019 to June 2020. Participants will be required to attend 6, 3-hour workshops from July to December. The remaining time will be spent developing programs Workshop times will be determined based on the availability of VAC members.

The purpose of the Vibrant Artist Cohort is to give artists the opportunity to work towards creating a project that supports their long-term goals and activates Tempe through the inclusion of arts and cultural participation, celebrating diversity, building community connections, and/or supporting local artists.
