Mayor Mitchell's 2018 State of the City available for viewing now - State of the Neighborhoods coming in April

If you didn't have a chance to attend, Tempe Mayor Mark Mitchell's annual State of the City Address is now available to be viewed on Tempe 11 YouTube.  Watch it now. More than 500 people attended the sold out event on Nov. 5 at the Marriott Tempe Buttes.

The theme of this year's event was IDEA Tempe, the 1 million sq ft technology center being built adjacent to Tempe Center for the Arts. IDEA stands for Innovation, Discovery, Education and Arts. Learn more about the campus at tempe.gov/IDEATempe.  

"It’s clear to me that this is how you move a community forward: Innovation. Discovery. Education. Arts," Mayor Mitchell said. "These drivers enable us to provide the resources to sustain and elevate the quality of life for our residents."

Beyond the IDEA Tempe campus, the speech also included information about discoveries by Arizona State University researchers, the Tempe Festival of the Arts, Tempe PRE, streetcar, Innovation Fund award winners, Tempe's efforts toward helping those with dementia and more. 

The State of the City event is produced in partnership with the Tempe Chamber of Commerce. it focuses predominantly on business and economic development issues. State of the Neighborhoods is its companion speech, looking more closely at issues that affect our neighborhoods and quality of life. The State of the Neighborhoods takes place on April 13 at Tempe History Museum, 809 E. Southern Ave., Tempe.
