Go green with sustainable public transportation
Get a jump-start on Earth Month with these transportation alternatives
TEMPE, Ariz. (March 20, 2018) – Sustainable public transportation saves energy, improves air quality and eases traffic congestion. Tempe’s transit system was designed to be a safe and effective multi-modal system, where residents can walk, bike, or use public transit to get around the city with ease.
Jump-start your Earth Month celebrations by using any, or all, of Tempe’s transportation alternatives:
- Orbit – Tempe’s free neighborhood circulator has six routes conveniently located throughout Tempe, connecting residents to local destinations, including shopping, recreation facilities, and schools. Most of the Orbit buses use alternative fuel.
- Bus – Tempe provides bus service on most arterial streets with 15 bus routes, three express routes and one free Flash route. All Tempe buses run on alternative fuel or are hybrid.
- Bike and Walk – Tempe has 215 miles of bikeways and multi-use paths, with multiple projects planned to expand and enhance bicycle and walking travel.
- METRO Light Rail – Tempe has nine METRO Light Rail stops. On average, light rail systems produce 62 percent less green house gas emissions than single occupancy vehicles.
