Learn about a proposed 0.5% sales tax measure to fund public safety, transportation and early childhood care and preschool education. Registered Tempe voters will vote on Proposition 424 on Nov. 3.
The sales tax would fund:
0.3% for public safety, including police officers, firefighters, park rangers and neighborhood safety elements such as street and park lighting
0.1% for transportation, such as transit, bicycle and pedestrian needs
0.1% for early childhood care and preschool education
Groceries and home-prepared food items would be exempt from the tax. If passed, the cost would be $0.50 per $100 on items purchased by residents or visitors.
