The Transportation Commission:

• advises and makes recommendations to the City Council and assists City departments and the City Manager on appropriate performance standards and benchmarks for use in evaluating the City's transportation system and program, based on nationally recognized guidelines and local priorities;

• advises and makes recommendations to the City Council and assists City departments and the City Manager on transportation plans, projects, and ordinances, including but not limited to:

• recommends and reviews short and long-range plans and studies for the City's transportation system, including streets, transit, bicycling, pedestrians, and demand management;

• periodically reviews and updates the transportation elements of the City's General Plan;

• provides input and reviews regional, state and federal transportation plans, projects, and issues especially as provided by federal law; and,

• promotes and maintains bicycling as a safe and effective mode of travel for recreation, health, and transportation.

• advises and recommends to the City Council and assists City departments and the City Manager annually on the elements of prioritized, unified operating and capital improvement program budgets for transportation;

• provides a forum for public hearings and other public involvement mechanisms to assure community-based transportation plans, projects, and issues, and to meet all federal and other guidelines for public involvement in transportation projects where applicable; and,

• takes any such further actions as may be deemed necessary and appropriate to further the goals of the Commission.

The Transportation Commission is composed of 15 members. The Commission may include one member who is affiliated with Arizona State University and is not a resident of Tempe and one member who is employed in Tempe and is not a resident of Tempe. Members are appointed for a term of three years. 

The Transportation Commission typically meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 7:30 a.m., at the Tempe Transportation Center, Don Cassano Community Room, 200 E. Fifth St., 2nd Floor, Tempe, AZ 85281 or virtually on Cisco Webex. 

The Transportation Commission welcomes public comment for agenized items only. There is a three-minute time limit per citizen.
