Dec. 10 Update:
While traffic continues to be disrupted on Rural Road due to the waterline break on Nov. 30, repairs are moving forward as rapidly as possible. The damaged section of the 30-inch waterline has been replaced, along with the installation of a new 30-inch valve south of the damaged area. Work will continue with waterline testing and other peripheral work before the extensive area below the road surface, eroded and washed away by the leak, is backfilled and properly compacted. Once backfilling is complete, and the waterline is back in operation, pavement restoration, curb and gutter repairs, roadway striping and right of way infrastructure rehabilitation will commence. Barring unforeseen circumstances, we anticipate regular traffic to be restored on Rural Road around Dec. 21. Striping and final repairs will likely continue for an additional week after that.

Residents may have questions about the duration of the repair. Most distribution system repairs of our smaller water mains of 6 to 12 inches can be completed in a matter of hours to a couple of days. The 30-inch transmission line disrupted on Rural Road is approximately 5-feet deep and is a primary service line for the system. Between parts availability, more specialized installation methods, the extensive subsurface and right of way damage and the necessary pavement and right of way repairs, more time is required to complete the work and reopen the affected lanes.

Thanks for your continued patience and please be assured that work is progressing as quickly as possible and we continue to work with Traffic Engineering to ensure the most efficient flow of traffic during this unplanned disruption.
