ONE TIME PROJECTS/EVENTS

FEBRUARY 2012

Annual Sweethearts Dance (25 volunteers)
Friday, February 17, 2 to 6 p.m. set-up

Volunteers are needed to help with set-up and decorating and then another crew is needed to help run the dance, activities and games at this dance for the whole family. Be a part of the fun!

Play Day in Tempe (20-25 volunteers)
Saturday, February 18, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

It's a day to celebrate the benefits of "play"! volunteers are needed to help run a host of free activities including boating, tennis, sports and more!

Tie-Dye Celebration (5 to 6 volunteers) -- filled
Thursday, February 23, 3 to 6:30 p.m.

Like to make a mess, I mean, like to express yourself creatively? Volunteers are needed to help kids explore the world of tie-day!

Free Arts Friday! (10-12 volunteers) -- filled
Friday, February 24, 9 a.m. to 12 noon

Help preschool kids explore the world of artistic expression through arts and crafts, games  and more! Volunteers are needed to staff craft tables and run activities. Join the fun!
 

MARCH 2012

Library Shelf Cleaning Project (6 - 8 volunteers) -- filled
Thursday, March 1, 6 to 8 p.m.
Volunteers are needed to clean and dust  library shelves and the books on the shelves while maintaining book order.

Winter Spelling Bee (2 to 3) -- filled
Wednesdays, March 2, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Volunteers are needed to help check spelling papers and hand out candy prizes at this fun, informal spelling bee for elementary school kids.

Library Shelf Cleaning Project (6 - 8 volunteers)
Saturday, March 3, 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Volunteers are needed to clean and dust  library shelves and the books on the shelves while maintaining book order.

Tales From Double Butte Walking Tour (4 to 6 volunteers)
Sunday, March 4, 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Volunteers will help greet and direct participants in this historical tour of Tempe's Double Cemetery. Learn more about Tempe's  famous or infamous past residents.

Holiday Happenings/St. Patrick's Day (2 volunteers) -- filled
Monday, March 5, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

There'll be wearing o'the green! Volunteers will work with children to assist them with crafts and activities celebrating St. Patrick's Day.

Friday Social Dance for Teens and Adults With Disabilities (2 to 3 volunteers)
Friday, March 9, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Help with set-up, collecting fees, talk and dance with participants and help with clean-up after this monthly dance for special populations.

St. Patrick's Day Celebration for Kids (5 to 6 volunteers)
Thursday, March 15, 2 to 5 p.m.

There'll be no green beer or kissin' here, just good clean fun for school-age kids! Volunteers are needed to help run craft activities and games and to be part of the fun!

Dishwasher needed for Senior Luncheon (1 to 2 volunteers)
Thursday, March 15, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Those seniors are eating again! It's a special luncheon at the senior center. Help is needed with preparations and clean-up.

Free Arts Friday!/Michaelangelo and Me (10-12 volunteers)
Friday, March 16, 9 a.m. to 12 noon

Help preschool kids explore the world of artistic expression through arts and crafts, games  and more! Volunteers are needed to staff craft tables and run activities. Join the fun!

Spring Break Hoops Clinic (8 to 12 volunteers)
Saturday, March 17, 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon

The clinic continues! Volunteers are needed to teach kids a basketball skill such as shooting, rebounding, etc., and then run them through practice drills. Don't you want to play a role in creating a future Michael Jordan?

Dishwasher needed for Senior Luncheon (1 to 2 volunteers)
Thursday, March 15, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Those seniors are partying again--it never ends! It's a special luncheon at the senior center. Help is needed with preparations and clean-up.

Science Fair for Preschool Kids! (4 to 6 volunteers)
Friday, March 30, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Elementary school-age kids will be displaying their science projects after a fun and exciting performance by Mad Science. volunteers are needed to help run two craft projects, serve refreshments and help with clean-up.

Recycling Outreach at the Tempe Spring Festival of the Arts (2 per shift)
Friday, Saturday and/or Sunday, March 30, 31 and April 1, shifts between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Volunteers are needed to help staff a City of Tempe information booth to distribute information on Tempe's solid waste and recycling programs.

APRIL 2012

Holiday Happenings/Hippity Hop (2 volunteers)
Monday, April 2, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Rabbits, eggs and candy, oh my! Volunteers will work with children to assist them with crafts and activities celebrating spring.

Adapted Recreation Karaoke Game Night (1 to 2 volunteers)
Friday, April 6, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.

A volunteer or two are needed to help run the karaoke and Wii activities for teens and adults with disabilities.

Community Egg Hunt (20 to 25 volunteers)
Saturday, April 7, 9 a.m. to 12 noon or 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Volunteers will help with set-up and decorating, run craft activity booths, and help hide eggs at hunts separated by age group.

Free Arts Friday! Cartoons and Comics(10 to 12 volunteers)
Friday, April 13, 9 a.m. to 12 noon

Help preschool kids explore the world of cartoons and comics through arts and crafts, games  and more! Volunteers are needed to staff craft tables and run activities. Join the fun!

Fabulous Friday Dance (2 to 3 volunteers)
Friday, April 13, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Volunteers will help with set-up, decorating, collecting admission fees, interacting with participants, and with clean-up and take-down at this social dance for teens and adults with disabilities.

Dishwasher needed for Senior Luncheon (1 to 2 volunteers)

Wonderful World of Water/Arizona Centennial Celebration

Tempe Zero Waste Day Recycling Event (12 volunteers)
Saturday, April 21, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Help Tempe "go green" on this special day when residents can drop off household products that are harmful to the landfill, used electronics and paper for shredding. Residents can also pick up free compost while at the event. Volunteers should be able to lift up to 25 lbs., bend and shovel compost.

Family Bingo Night (3 volunteers)
Saturday, April 21, 5 to 8 p.m.

Volunteers will help with set-up, check bingo numbers and help with take down at this fun event for the whole family.

Arbor Day 5K Run (20 to 25 volunteers)
Friday, April 27, Time tbd
Volunteers are needed to help staff the registration desk, work at water stations and along the race route as well as at the finish line at this run to benefit Tempe's Trees program.


MAY 2012

Preschool Graduation (4 to 6 volunteers)
Thursday, May 3, 4 to 8 p.m.
Help our minis and their families celebrate the completion of this first milestone in their lives. Volunteers will help decorate, lead children to the stage to receive their "diplomas", help serve refreshments and help with clean-up after the event.

Lego Challenge for Kids (1 to 2 volunteers)
Monday, May 7, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Help find a future architect or designer as kids compete with their crazy Lego designs. Volunteers will help with set-up, interacting with and encouraging kids, and handing out prizes at this fun, free event for kids six to 12 years of age.

Spring Spelling Bee (2 to 3 volunteers)
Tuesday, May 8, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Volunteers will help grade spelling papers and hand out candy prizes at this fun informal spelling bee for five to 14 year olds.

Fabulous Friday Dance (2 to 3 volunteers)

Volunteers will help with set-up, decorating, collecting admission fees, interacting with participants, and with clean-up and take-down at this social dance for teens and adults with disabilities.

Centennial Celebration (4 to 5 volunteers)
Saturday, May 12, 10 a.m. to 12 noon

Volunteers are needed to help with set-up, run craft activities related to the performance and then help take down and clean-up.

Free Arts Friday! Make It for Mom(10-12 volunteers)
Friday, May 18, 9 a.m. to 12 noon

Help preschool kids create fabulous hand-crafted gifts for Mothers' Day! Volunteers are needed to staff craft tables and run activities. Join the fun!


JUNE 2012

Free Arts Friday! Make It for Dad (10-12 volunteers)
Friday, June 15, 9 a.m. to 12 noon

Now it's dad's turn! Help preschool kids create fabulous hand-crafted gifts for Fathers' Day! Volunteers are needed to staff craft tables and run activities. Join the fun!


NOVEMBER 2012
