ONE DAY PROJECTS/EVENTS

 

DECEMBER 2008

Holiday Decorating (4-6 volunteers)
Monday through Thursday, December 1 through 4, between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Volunteers are needed to help decorate the Petersen House Museum for the holidays including stringing lights and decorating Christmas trees.

Holiday Tea Party for Retirees (6 volunteers) - filled
Friday, December 5 (shifts between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.)

Volunteers are needed to help set-up, decorate, serve refreshments and clean-up at this special tea party for senior adults.

Winter Wonderland Carnival (25-30 volunteers)
Friday, December 5, 3 to 6 p.m.

Volunteers will help set-up and decorate, run carnival games and craft activities and assist with clean up at this fun, free family event that kicks-off the holiday season.

Holiday Fantasia (2-3 volunteers)
Saturday, December 6, 12:30 to 4:15 p.m.

Volunteers will run craft activities and games, direct visitors to Santa, take photos and more at this holiday-season kick-off event.

Danish Christmas Celebration (2 to 4 volunteers) - filled
Sundays, December 7, 14 and 21, 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Volunteers will welcome visitors to the Petersen House, direct visitors through the house and help with refreshments at these special historically-themed Christmas events.

Friday Dance (6 volunteers) - filled
Friday, December 12, 5 to 10 p.m.

Volunteers are needed to help set-up and decorate, prepare and serve refreshments, interact with participants and help clean-up at this special holiday dance for teens and adults with special needs.

Holiday Happenings/Winter (2 volunteers) - filled
Monday, December 15, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Help children with winter and holiday-themed craft activities, as well as assist with set-up and clean-up at this fun activity for school-aged kids.

Swim with Santa (10 volunteers)
Friday, December 26, 12 noon to 4 p.m., also
Saturday, December 27, 12 noon to 4 p.m.

Volunteers will run activity booths around the pool at this special swim event with Mr. and Mrs. Claus.

Light Rail Grand Opening Celebration (100+ volunteers)
Saturday, December 27, shifts between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Be a part of history! Light rail opens to the public on this day and its arrival will be celebrated at the transportation center in downtown Tempe with informational booths, craft activities for kids, a concert and fireworks. Volunteers are needed to help with set-up, run children's activities and/or assist at informational booths. All volunteers will receive a long-sleeved commemorative shirt to wear that day.


JANUARY 2009

MLK Diversity Awards Breakfast (2 volunteers) - filled
Monday, January 19, 8 to 10 a.m.

Volunteers will staff the registration/nametag table at this community event that is part of Tempe's Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration.

FEBRUARY 2009

Unity Walk (10-15 volunteers)
Saturday, February 7, morning (exact time TBD)

A small team of volunteers will serve at four Tempe locations as "site hosts" handing out t-shirts, water, placards, etc. to community members participating in the walk. Volunteers will also lead their sites group to the Tempe Community Center.

Peanut Butter & Jam Storytime and Concert (6 volunteers)
Monday, February 23, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Volunteers will run the craft activity tables and serve refreshments at this outdoor storytime event with a Chinese New Year theme.

MARCH 2009

Earth Day (5 - 6 volunteers)
Saturday, March 7, 11 to 2:30 p.m.

Celebrate earth day by spreading ecological consciousness to kids! Volunteers will help run craft activities and games, serve refreshments and assist with set-up and take down.

APRIL 2009

Dia de los Ninos (5 - 6 volunteers)
Sunday, April 26, 1 to 4:30 p.m.

It's a Hispanic heritage celebration just for kids! Volunteers will run craft activities and games, serve refreshments and assist with set-up and take down.
