Volunteer Opportunities at the
Tempe Public Library
 

Periodicals Assistant
Volunteers retrieve back-issue magazines and newspapers and microfilms for library patrons and then re-file them.

Circulation Assistant
Volunteers label and file books reserved by library patrons.

Book Processor
Volunteers prepare new books for circulation; includes stamping, putting on covers, etc.

Computer Aide
Volunteers help monitor patron use of the library's computers; monitor use schedule, assist library patrons with using computers and finding information on the internet.

Computer Aide (9-12th graders)
Volunteer's assist young library patrons with using the 14 computers in the Youth Services section. See student opportunities--library.

Homebound Delivery Assistant
A volunteer or pair of volunteers deliver books to Tempe residents who are handicapped or elderly and cannot make it in to the library.

Reference Aide
Volunteers file and maintain materials in the reference collection, update loose-leaf resources, check titles in the library's collection, and assist with special projects.

Shelving Assistants (7th graders and older)
Volunteers serve in the shelf maintenance area of the library assisting with emptying book drops, checking in books, and re-shelving library materials. See student opportunities--library.

Youth Corps (Grades 6 through 9)
Student volunteers assist librarians in the Youth Library with tasks such as covering new books, cleaning and restocking computer carrels, re-shelving library materials, preparation of craft materials for story times, etc. See student opportunities--library.
