Experience Corps

Looking for a few good Men and Women age 50+
to help change a child’s life

The City of Tempe has been selected as one of the newest communities to host Experience Corps, a nationally recognized literacy program. Join a corps of more than 2,000 volunteers in 18 cities nationwide who are making a significant impact in their communities. Volunteers provide one-on-one reading tutoring to struggling students in kindergarten through third grade. Experience Corps volunteers work in three Tempe elementary schools--Thew, Arredondo and Meyer.

Volunteers do not need special skills just a willingness to share their experience, time and patience. Comprehensive training, excellent support services and an orientation are provided. A range of commitments is available from four to 15 hours a week. Volunteers willing to commit 15 or more hours weekly will be paid a monthly stipend of approximately $200 dollars. Stipended positions have an age requirement of 55+ due to funding stipulations. For more information, call Peggy Goldberg at (480) 858-2465 or email at peggy_goldberg@tempe.gov .
