Tempe’s Help to Others (H2O)
voluntary
utility donation
program makes it easier for Tempe residents to help neighbors
in need. A
partnership between the City of Tempe and
Tempe Community Council makes it easy for Tempe
water
customers to donate a dollar or more per month to those
in need.
Simply add your donation to the Voluntary Donation line on your monthly water bill.
If you would like to pre-determine
an additional dollar amount to donate or are a "Surepay" customer and would like
to contribute to this fund,
please call the Water Utilities Department at 480-350-8361
or contact the
City of Tempe Customer Service
Department, 20 E. Sixth Street, Tempe, AZ 85281.
The community deserves the credit for making this program a success, and we recognize and thank all the citizens who have donated to the H2O
program. 100% of all donations are put back into the
community to help individuals and families with food, clothing, shelter,
counseling services, after-school programs, and a variety of other services to
help people lead happy, healthy, and productive lives.

The following are frequently asked questions about the program:
Q: How can I participate in "Help to Others?"
A: A voluntary donation of $1.00 has been added to Tempes
monthly utility bills. Simply pay the "Total + Voluntary Donation" on your bill.
Customers also have the option of donating more that $1, in even increments to
an amount of their choosing.
Q: What if I do not want to participate in "Help to
Others?"
A: Customers who do not wish to add the $1 voluntary donation should
pay the sum on their bills titled "Utility Amount Due."
Q: Who decides how donations are spent?
A: Tempe Community Council, serving as the Citys Human
Services Department, works with a volunteer citizen committee to review all applications
and make recommendations to the Tempe City Council for approval.
Q:
Will any of the money be used to pay for "Help to
Others" administrative costs?
A: No. All donated funds will go directly to
nonprofit agencies who help Tempe residents in need.
Q: Can individuals apply for assistance through "Help to
Others?"
A: No. Only non-profit organizations that provide essential human
services to Tempe citizens may apply.
Q: Are my donations tax deductible?
A: Yes. Contributors will receive a year-end total of their
donations in the January utility statement that can serve as documentation for tax
purposes.
Q: Do I have to sign-up or fill out a pledge card to donate to
"Help to Others?"
A: No, just pay the "Total + Voluntary
Donation" on your water bill or give directly online by clicking the "Make a
Donation" button above.
Q: Doesnt the City
fund human service programs?
A: In 04/05 the City of Tempe provided General Revenue funding in
the amount of $812,229 to community agencies, but the need for services is far greater
than what the City can provide. This is why we need your help.
