During a Study Session on Oct. 4, the Tempe City Council indicated
approval of the programming phase of the Tempe Center for the Arts (TCA)
advancing the project on to the next step – schematic design.
Tempe-based design firm ARCHITEKTON, in cooperation with Barton Myers
Associates, Inc. of Beverly Hills, California, presented a detailed
building program resulting from several meetings of Executive and
Steering Committees, User Group representatives, City of Tempe staff,
and other stakeholders over the past four months. As developed by the
architectural team and the representative committees, the 80,000
square-foot facility will feature a 600-seat main theater, a 200-seat
studio theater, and 3500 square-feet of visual arts gallery space. The
TCA, located on the southwest end of Tempe Town Lake, will be placed in
a beautifully appointed art park developed by Tempe landscape
architecture firm Design Workshop.
During the schematic design phase of the TCA project, residents will
have the opportunity to view and comment upon a presentation of elements
including advanced conceptual site plans, floor plans, theater plans,
building elevations, seating plans, landscape plans, acoustical /
mechanical strategies, and an advanced study model. In addition,
interior and exterior renderings will be presented. The presentation
will take place in a Public Meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. on Jan. 22 at the
Edna Vihel Center for the Arts, in the Stage Room.
The
Tempe Center for the Arts is being funded through a dedicated sales tax
passed by Tempe voters in May 2000.
