Steinway pianist Walter Cosand joins the Tempe Symphony Orchestra in opening its 34th season under the direction of
Dr. Richard Strange. Cosand will perform Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 1 in
Eb. The orchestra will play selections from Brahms and Prokofiev, as

Tim McAllister, Professor of Saxophone at Arizona State University, will be the featured soloist. Hear the adventures of 1001 Arabian nights as the symphony performs works depicting the exotic orient. From the Overture to Lawrence of Arabia to Tchaikovsky’s Arabian Dance from the Nutcracker, the delectable evening concludes with Rimsky-Korsakov’s masterpiece: Scheherazad. This play combines the hilarity of slapstick with the creative possibilities of paper sculpture, exploring storytelling as two comic characters get caught in a conflict between ‘analog’ and ‘digital’ culture. The Arizona Wind Symphony (AWS) presents "Something
Old, Something New, Something Borrowed and Blue." This concert will explore
traditional band standards as well as the shape of music to come. Featured
composers include von Suppe, Gershwin, Gould and Sousa. Benny Green is considered one of the top jazz pianists in the world. This hard bop player" graduated" from Art Blakey’s Jazz Messingers and is compared to Bud Powell in style and influence.
