Volunteer Opportunities - Motorist Service

Requirements

Approved candidates for the volunteer program must:

  • Submit a completed Application
  • Meet with the Volunteer Coordinator for a preliminary interview
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Be fingerprinted
  • Submit to a polygraph examination (for designated positions)
  • Be interviewed by potential supervisor

Duties and Details

  • Motorist Services is a corps of uniformed civilian volunteers whose primary function is
    to assist stranded motorists in the City of Tempe
  • Pushing vehicles from roadway; providing fuel, water and air; jump-starting vehicles, 
    changing flat tires; calling for tow truck; lock-out services; clear debris from roadway
  • Work with sworn Officers: assist officers at traffic accidents; 'Red Tag' abandoned vehicles;
    write citations for fire lane/handicapped parking violations
