Tempe Motor Officer Involved in Vehicle Collision

On July 2, 2008 at 4:14 p.m., Tempe Motor Officer A. Wozniak was involved in an injury collision on her marked Tempe Police motorcycle at 8th St. and Gary while responding to a burglary in progress call.  While Officer Wozniak was eastbound on 8th St., she attempted to pass a slower moving vehicle on the left.  That vehicle, a 2005 Acura 2-door coupe, turned left into the driveway of a business complex and collided with Officer Wozniak.

Officer Wozniak suffered a broken right forearm and was transported to a local hospital for surgery.  We are pleased to report that she has made it through surgery exceptionally well and will be released from the hospital very soon.  She is expected to make a full recovery.  We are also pleased to report that the driver of the Acura suffered no injuries and was released at the scene.  Neither excessive speed nor impairment is suspected in this incident.

No citations have been issued at this time as investigation is continuing by the Tempe Police Department Traffic Bureau.

The suspect in the burglary was apprehended.
