Man Caught Trespassing Tries to Evade Police by Running Across the 101

Suspect:  Lawrence Charles (Date of Birth 06-18-78)

On June 24, 2008 at 6:34 p.m., Lawrence Charles was arrested for residential trespass at 2310 E. Maryland in Tempe.  Charles had been discovered in the backyard of that location by its residents and Police were contacted immediately.  Charles attempted to evade Police by running across the 101 Freeway between University Dr. and Apache Blvd. but he was apprehended a short time later.  Charles gave two aliases, Johnny McBride and Burtell Thomas, before supplying Officers with his correct identity.  Two syringes, one empty and one filled with a substance believed to be heroin, were found on his person during a search incident to arrest and four felony warrants were discovered upon running him.

Charles was arrested for the four warrants and the following new charges: Possession of Narcotic Drug (Felony 4), Resisting Arrest (Felony 5), 2nd Degree Escape (Felony 5), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Felony 6), Criminal Trespass - Residential Yard (Felony 6), Trespass - ADOT (Misdemeanor 1), and False Reporting to Law Enforcement (Misdemeanor 1).

Fortunately, no one was injured or experienced a collision as a result of Charles fleeing from Police.
