  • · When riding at night, have a white light on the front and a red reflector on the back of the bike.

  • · Use hand signals to communicate your intentions to motorists and pedestrians.

  • · Protect your head and wear a properly fitted bike helmet.

  • · Wear light colored reflective clothing at night.

  • · Record the serial number of your bike in the event the bike is lost or stolen.

 Special Considerations for Children

  • · Insist that your child wear a helmet every time he/she rides a bicycle. Replace the helmet if it has been damaged.

  • · Check your child's bicycle for correct fit, properly working parts, and reflectors.

  • · Teach your child to look left-right-left before entering the roadway or intersection.

  • · Never let a child ride a bicycle while listening to headphones
