Tempe, Arizona – As part of an ongoing renovation project, the Orbit bus stop located at Tempe Public Library’s north parking lot will move Monday, June 22, until renovations are completed in mid-2010.
The Orbit stop, currently located at the lot between the Tempe History Museum and Pyle Adult Recreation Center, serves the Orbit Jupiter and Orbit Mars routes. The stop will move south, adjacent to the library’s exterior amphitheater. The move will make room for a construction trailer and staging area during the renovation.
The yearlong renovation project – the first-ever overhaul to the 20-year-old building – will transform the library into an even better environment for learning and community interaction.
In May 2006, Tempe voters authorized the sale of bonds for the $8 million renovation. Tempe’s Capital Improvement Program budget is separate from the city’s operating budget; bonds are repaid through secondary property taxes.
