Information on identifying and eradicating roof rats

Información en espańol

The city is assisting residents interested in learning more about preventing and eradicating roof rats. Residents are reminded to pick up fruit and nuts from the ground, keep garbage containers covered, keep pet waste cleaned from the yard, store bulk foods in sealed, rat-proof containers, keep pet food stored and harvest citrus promptly and completely.

f you have fruit trees and more fruit than you can use, take advantage of the Arcadia Citrus Collection program.  Fruit can be dropped off Saturday mornings from 8:00 a.m. until noon at the Elk's BPOE Scottsdale Lodge 2148 at 6398 East Oak Street, Scottsdale, AZ 85257 through March 25, 2012. In addition, there are opportunities for commercial drop off from 8-10 a.m. and residents who want fruit can come by between 10-11:30 a.m. to select some.

People who suspect that they have roof rats should call Maricopa County Environmental Services Department at 602-506-6616.  After selecting the English or Spanish option, select option 4 “to report a complaint,” then press 2 “to file a complaint.”  Roof rat sightings can be reported by telephone Monday thru Friday From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sightings can also be filed electronically at http://www.maricopa.gov/EnvSvc/Complaints/Forms/ComplaintInput.aspx?category=39, Select the “report a complaint” button at the top of the page.

For more information, please visit www.maricopa.gov/envsvc/, Arcadia Neighborhood (Phoenix) (including information on citrus donation) or the City of Scottsdale websites.
