The city is assisting residents interested in learning more about preventing and
eradicating roof rats. Residents are reminded to pick up fruit and
nuts from the ground, keep garbage containers covered, keep pet waste cleaned
from the yard, store bulk foods in sealed, rat-proof containers, keep pet food
stored and harvest citrus promptly and completely.
f you have fruit trees and more
fruit than you can use, take advantage of the Arcadia Citrus Collection
program. Fruit can be dropped off Saturday mornings from 8:00 a.m. until noon
at the Elk's BPOE
Scottsdale Lodge 2148 at 6398 East Oak Street, Scottsdale, AZ 85257 through
March 25, 2012. In addition, there are
opportunities for commercial drop off from 8-10 a.m. and residents who want
fruit can come by between 10-11:30 a.m. to select some.
People
who suspect that they have roof rats should call Maricopa County Environmental
Services Department at 602-506-6616. After selecting the English or Spanish
option, select option 4 “to report a complaint,” then press 2 “to file a
complaint.” Roof rat sightings can be reported by telephone Monday thru Friday
